::Happy Veteran’s Day, Dad::

My Dad works for the Bureau of Reclamation and has for most of his life. This year the Bureau sent out a news letter in honor of those who served for our country.

This is the short and very sweet piece on my father.

Dave Arter Construction Manager, Mid-Pacifc Construction Office
(40+ years of Federal service)

U.S. Army, 1969-1972; Vietnam War Veteran, 1969-1970, Specialist Five/Sergeant Avionic Electronics Specialist.

Repaired all electronic equipment on CH47 choppers and flew as an l.T. & door gunner for special classified missions.
Served with 101st Airborne Division, 159th Aviation, Company “B.”
After Vietnam I served 18 months in Germany. Honorable Discharge with several service medals including the BronzeStar.

Special Thoughts/Memories: Highlights of service was surviving Vietnam, spending 1 week touring Australia (Golden times). Also toured several European countries while stationed in Germany. Loved the German food, still do.

Despite the troubled times of the 60s and early 70s, I was and still am very proud of my service to the United States of America and it’s citizens. My great Grandfather, my Grandfather, my Dad, and I all served in the U.S.Army- familytradition.

My family has a long history of serving this country and I am proud of them every day. However, it is wonderful to have a day that most American’s take a little time to appreciate them as well.

To all the Veterans, thank you. You deserve much more than one day a year for all you have sacrificed.
