You Aren’t Living

As I was on Facebook today I received a notification reminding me of all the articles/pages/webinars I saved but have yet to open. As I was weeding out the ones which are no longer relevant I came across this article, Bullshit, You Aren’t Living. I don’t remember how it was on my time line or why I felt compelled to save it, but I did. As I read the article I started to smile and laugh, mostly because everything Janne wrote is absolutely true; but also because her words inspired me to continue down my path. Although my path is not perfect nor what I had planned (read Accepting The Path I’m On), I have never felt more alive. More free. More appreciative.

Janne wrote exactly what I have been feeling and trying to say for years. And although I know we are here to live our best life, I too fall victim to the every day stereotype of success. I like expensive and new things as much as the next girl, but I feel as though there is too much emphasis put on possessions and not enough places on experiences. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my BMW convertible I just no longer believe I have to have a corporate job to pay for it. My car does not define who I am.

After I was laid off from my first real job post graduate school I came across this quote:

“If you don’t build your dreams someone else will pay you to build theirs.”

This could not be more true. If you do not focus on yourself, on your dreams, someone will (or is) pay you to build their dream. I believe we can each create our own destiny. I believe the world would be a better place if we all chased our passion(s) rather than money. We only get one very short life there is no reason to be unhappy.

If this resonates with you, if you aren’t living, think about changes you can make in order to start living. The changes can be small, maybe fitting in a workout so you have more energy. Or setting a standing date night with your significant other. Maybe you don’t buy coffee on Wednesday and rather save the $5. Small changes create a large result. Don’t let life pass you by.

One of my favorite quotes:

“Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?” Charles Bukowski
