So, let me ask you. How’s your 2018 resolution going?
Now don’t beat yourself up if you are in the 95%, I use to be there too. But here’s the amazing thing, you don’t need a new year, new month, or even a new week to implement a plan.
Now hear me out, a resolution is a goal. Usually to help make one a better version of oneself (i.e., workout more, drink less, eat healthier meals, spend time with family, etc.). If that is your goal, to be a better version, you don’t need to wait until society says its time to start. Just start.
I want to share with you all my 2017 journey.
If you’ve been following me you know that in 2017 I set out to become healthier. As a former collegiate athlete I was surprised when I looked in the mirror in fall of 2016 and saw an overweight unhealthy 30 something staring back. I put my health on the back burner for jobs that literally did not care about me, you can read about that here: Accepting the Path I am on.
I spent most of 2017 feeling less than good enough in comparison to all the fitness accounts I follow on social media. I tried to measure up, to be as good as they are. I also spent a lot of 2017 trying to make something work because I committed to it. Yes, I am talking about Beachbody. I work from home as a freelance researcher, so working out at home just didn’t work for me. I tried everything, but it comes down to the fact I need to leave my house from time to time. I need to interact with people other than social media.
In September I had a great conversation with someone I now consider a great friend, although we have never met in real life. We spoke about trying to find my voice in an oversaturated fitness industry on Instagram. We spoke about my fitness results in 2017 and following my gut/intuition. Lane opened my eyes and presented me with an amazing opportunity. However, even after our amazing conversation, I remained stagnant; until Thanksgiving.
While relaxing on the couch I realized this is my journey and thus it cannot be compared to others. I realized I cannot make decisions about my future based on how others may or may not feel. Most importantly, I realized my weight loss results were not because of Beachbody. My results were a direct result of my hard work, dedication, and commitment to myself. Then and there I decided to make a change. I sent an IG DM that LITERALLY changed my life.
December 1st I started nutritional cleansing. I was super hesitant. I was scared new products would make my face break out; like the new vegan Shakology flavors had. I was skeptical that cleanse days were any different from intermittent fasting. But I did it, I jumped in.
After 30 days I was amazed by my results. To be completely honest, I didn’t notice the difference until I created this post.
Looking back, I wish I would have used better lighting in my after photo. 🙄 But, I was up at 4:00 am headed to the Rose Bowl to see my Sooners play; so I was distracted, to say the least. (Stay tuned for a post about how to navigate the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day).
There are reasons why I am sharing my 2017 journey with you as most are falling off the resolution bandwagon.
- Resolutions are stupid; mostly because people attempt to change 1,000 things all at the same time.
- You don’t need a new year to start your journey; you simply need the desire to become the best version of yourself.
- This past week, January 8, I started a 16-week challenge and I want to encourage each and everyone one of you to join me. See what can happen when you don’t give up.
- To remind each of you to STOP comparing yourself to others.
- Your health doesn’t need to be overcomplicated nor do you need to do it on your own.
