::Polotics::

I don’t normally talk politics, which is funny as it may be the only topic I keep quiet about.

Maybe it was my upbringing.
Maybe it’s because I don’t see myself as one or the other- Republican or Democrat.

Here’s the thing, I don’t judge others based on their party affiliation; I judge based on morals.

Mostly because I understand voting is a complex, multifaceted process which (sometimes) forces individuals to prioritize important issues.

Wednesday I saw a lot of posts saying something to the effect of “I won’t forgive you if you voted for Trump.”

(🤔 I have so many question regarding such a polarizing statement/meme, but I digress.)

It’s not lost on me that people are rightfully angry.

What is lost on me is the unwillingness to see beyond the arbitrary party line.

I don’t care who you voted for.

I care about how you treat the waiter after a long day, or the woman who clearly needs help with her groceries, or the front desk person when you check in for an early morning fitness class, or if you pick up litter on the beach.

I care if you’re willing to admit you’re wrong and if you’re open to learning something new, even if it’s uncomfortable.

I care about why you made your political choice.

I believe in this Country, not because I think it’s perfect (it clearly isn’t), but because of the ideals in which it was founded on- Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Regardless of who wins this election we have a long way to go in order to heal, learn, and move forward.

Change doesn’t just happen, it requires work.

In this time of complete uncertainty, I urge each of us to really think about the effectiveness of an eloquent argument compared to an argument made out anger.

I implore each of us to exercise kindness and understanding (even if we have not received it).

Every single one of us has a lot of difficult conversations on the horizon, some may not be our “responsibility” but we cannot claim to want a better future while running the other direction when it gets uncomfortable.
