Tips to Boost Your Immune System
It’s that time of year again, germ season. For years I struggled with trying to figure out what I could do besides carry sanitizer everywhere- I wanted to be proactive. Here are seven tips to boost your immune system.
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein can help provide your body with the nutrients it needs to build a strong immune system. Avoid processed sugar when possible (e.g., don’t eat it when not at a party/event, etc.). Add fermented garlic and honey to your diet during the winter months.
- Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help flush toxins out of your body and keep your immune system functioning properly.
- Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can weaken your immune system, aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
- Exercise regularly: Exercise can help reduce stress and boost your immune system. Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise 4x a week.
- Manage stress: Chronic stress can take a toll on your immune system, find healthy ways to manage stress (e.g., meditation, yoga, and/or adaptogens, etc.). Most important-say no if the activity will add stress.
- Limit alcohol consumption: Drinking too much alcohol can also weaken your immune system.
- Listen to your body: Pay attention to when you feel tired or less than 100%. Take advantage of WFH, sick days, and sleeping in.
