Positive Additions

What if we approached our wellness from the point of view of what positive additions can we make rather than what we have to take away (aka give up).

While speaking with a nutrition client a few weeks ago she stated this was not the time (of year) for her to go on a strict diet. It is the holiday season with a lot of parties and dinners, she wants to enjoy herself.

I asked her to add three (3) simple things to her current routine for 10 days.

  • Walk an additional 500 steps than your current average.
  • Add a macro balanced, nutrient dense shake to your day.
  • End your day with adaptogens.

She sent me a text message this morning, she is down five (5) pounds, sleeping through the night, and skipping her afternoon coffee!

She did not have to give up anything, she made (obtainable) positive additions to her busy schedule.

Why is this important, because we are being bombarded with advertisements for how to improve our lives (e.g., make more money, drop 15 pounds, reduce stress, etc.) which are all great; however, I believe the fitness and personal development industries are doing the majority of people a disservice by selling perfection, often dressed up as balance.

Balance implies giving up certain things via will power in order to achieve perfect results, but it is not sustainable. Lasting change has to come from habits and routine, which are developed via small wins each day.

What most influencers/marketers will not tell you (because it is not sexy and they will not make money), there is no quick fix to lasting change. However, once the small changes become a habit you introduce more small positive additions to your routine- this is sustainable.

Eventually it is easy to pass the donuts at work (because your sugar dependance has subsided). It is easy to go to bed early because you know how important sleep is and how good you feel. It is easy to read an entire book because you read five (5) pages a day.

So, as we enter the season of change your life marketing I encourage you to set big goals and then work backwards to create obtainable, positive additions in your routine.

  • Read 5 pages a day.
  • Walk an additional 500 steps.
  • Take the stairs, park a little further away.
  • Add a healthy option to your diet.
  • Drink more water.
  • Add adaptogens.

Big changes start with small changes.

Wishing you a wonderful NYE!🩷J
